Starting Married Life

Mission: The Journey To A New Home
Location: Personal Quarters

Addie smiled, resting her head on Timber's chest, her fingertips tracing softly over his chest, listening to the sound of his heart beating as he slept. It was hard to believe that they were married.

It wasn't long ago at all that she had come aboard the ship, very much single and with no desire to be pursing a relationship, let alone anything else that came with it, like marriage or children. She wanted to focus on her career, on adjusting to being Chief Medical Officer, on settling in to a new assignment.

Oh how quickly things had changed.

Timber was dreaming of his wife holding his brand new baby up to the heavens asking for the Great Spirit's blessing and getting it in the form of an eagle as it flew over his child losing a tail feather. That would be the baby's Indian name, Little Eagle Feather. Smiling, he stirred in the bed feeling Addies warmth. Taking his hand he traced her shoulder down her side to her belly where the new life was beginning to grow. You can not explain true love to anyone if they don't believe that it can happen and last a long time.

"Addie my wife, I love you more than I care to admit. I am a happy man and a pleased father to be", he whispered.

"I'm glad," she said softly as she smiled, closing her eyes at the sensation of his hand resting on her stomach. "I didn't mean to disturb you, you were sleeping so peacefully. Lovely dreams?" she asked quietly.

"Yes and the Indian name for the baby too. Little Eagle Feather my darling as you held the child up for the Great Spirit's blessing, I saw an eagle fly over and a feather dropped and I picked it up. That is how the name was picked this time. It is a strong name", Timber said tracing the image of the feather on her belly and kissing her head gently.

Addie laughed softly. "I think it's much too early to be thinking about names yet, even Indian names," she said with a smile, reaching up to brush a soft kiss across his lips. "Do you have to go to work today? Can't we have just one day off to be together?" she asked quietly, already knowing the answer, but hoping none the less.

"Actually Addie I was thinking about staying home and just checking the reports from here", he said chuckling. The ship's were still in the stations vicinity and the ship's were getting prepared to receive their precious cargo of refugees. It was kinda like a transition period, or the lull before the storm type of quiet and he wanted to take advantage of it.

Married life on any starship is always a test of faith, strength, and love and most of all, trust. You have a duty to your ship and your position and sometimes there almost always will be something to test your ability to lead and make the hard decisions. This was something that some would say would be the greatest thing to test the bonds of matrimony and command. Now he had to prove he could do both and not loose his dignity and his understanding of his job.

"Really?" Addie asked, clearly surprised at his answer, breaking into a sudden laugh. "It may quite possibly be the only day of our married life we get to really be together," she said, still laughing softly. "And I know that this is what we signed up for, it's okay, I know that. But it would be really nice to have at least one day to enjoy you being my husband."

Rolling on top of her, brushing her golden curls from her eyes, "Ah, but I am here my wife and I am making a point of spending at least one day with my new bride", he said leaning in to give her a passionate kiss.

Giggling between kisses, Addie pulled him in for one more kiss before looking up into his eyes. "You should make the most of being able to do this while you can, it won't be too long and I'll be too fat for you to lay on top of me like this," she said with a grin. "But... in the mean time... you mean I have you here, in our bed with me all day?" she raised one eyebrow slightly as she looked up at him.

"Basically yes except for the reports I have to go over from each department and after any new business since yesterday. I will be here all day, to play loving husband with you dear wife. What is for breakfast?", he said playfully.

Just the very thought of food was enough for her stomach to lurch violently. "Oh, can we please not talk about food," she whispered, closing her eyes and trying to draw slow breaths to still the nausea. "I need a few more hours at least before I can even think about it."

Laughing, " I am sorry honey", he said as he rubbed her belly gently. "We are going to have to figure out what we should do for family quarters. I don't want to have you to far from sickbay but I am not sure if family quarters are on lower decks", he said gently. Shifting his weight he propped up on one elbow and looked at Addie. She was so beautiful and so wonderous to look at and for the first time in days she looked completely at peace like nothing in the world mattered to her. "Addie you look so relaxed and at peace, it does me proud to see you like this", he whispered.

Addie smiled slightly. "I feel happy," she said softly, looking up at him. "I have you, I'm here, we have our baby coming..." a slight smile crossed her face. "A few months ago none of this mattered and yet here we are, and I couldn't be happier," she said with a smile.

"Your parents will probably flip when they do find out, but, true love can not be ignored or broken by misguided beliefs or not understanding that the goals are the same", Timber said smiling.

"My parents are going to more than flip out," Addie replied softly. "And I know I'm going to have to tell them, especially now with a baby on the way, but I'll leave it until tomorrow. For today I just want to be with you, just us."

"We are together just us", he whispered caressing her face gently. Leaning in he gently nibbled on her ear, feeling her tremble beneath his touch. Gently he found her lips and kissed her passionately. His hands gently twirling her hair, he deepened the kiss till both bodies became one and rose above the heavens.
